
Virtual field trips for 4th graders integrating multimedia delivery including digital video, interactive web, hands-on science kits and videoconferencing.
Content adheres to national math and science standards through an interdisciplinary approach that includes environmental science, geology, geography, ecology, physiology, meteorology, natural and US history, chemistry, physics and astronomy. Programs are comprised of four phases.

Located at http://www.trailguides.org. Includes information to reinforce and supplement video content. Requires students to complete “missions” to move through content. Digitized video clips are downloaded to “remind” students of previous video program content. Password protected teacher area provides answers for instructional use. |
Hands-on activities |
CSO science kits constructed for use at schools to apply knowledge. All necessary components allow students to work in groups efficiently. Led by CSO Trail Guides staff on-site and/or via videoconference. Kits can be loaned or purchased. |
Videoconference |
Schools communicate via live, two-way audio/video conference. Exchange of data relating experimental science kit outcomes, demonstrations, live specimen viewing and question/answer sessions are led by guests such as park rangers and CSO Trail Guides staff. |
