SSMV Seniors Celebrate Outstanding Achievements

Friday, December 9, 2011 - 10:22am

On December 6, the School for Science and Math at Vanderbilt held a reception to recognize the outstanding achievement of our senior students and to thank the Vanderbilt researchers and mentors who have hosted them in their labs over the last year. The event was held in the lobby of Medical Research Building III and was well attended by Vanderbilt administration, researchers, graduate students, and reporters from The Tennessean and Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Reporter.

Dr. Angela Eeds addressed the audience and presented awards to our two Siemens Competition for Math, Science, and Technology semifinalists, Lauren Lu and Jasmine Kelly, and their respective lab mentors, Drs. Chris Williams and Tiffany Tung, as well as our two finalists, Jyo Biswas and Shalom Rottman-Yang, for their work with Dr. James Dickerson. Dr. Vanags then presented another award to Shalom Rottman-Yang for winning the student oral presentation contest, which was voted on by the Class of 2011.

The awards ceremony was capped off by serving our annual "research is sweet" cake with a side of sparkling cider.
