Antioch, TN 37013

Students* and their families from all Antioch Cluster and Cane Ridge Cluster middle schools are invited to an evening of science at Cane Ridge High School.

All middle school science teachers are also invited to attend to gather ideas for hands-on activities they can use in their classrooms.

This Family Science Night is a unique and exceptional event since the hands-on activities are presented by science undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral fellows from several local universities and colleges.

The evening program consists of over 50 hands-on science activities stationed throughout the school building, providing an opportunity for children and their parents to work together conducting simple, inquiry-based, age-appropriate, hands-on science activities, observe scientific demonstrations, and talk with scientists to find out more about the latest developments in science, math, and engineering.

Sponsored by the Vanderbilt Center for Science Outreach in collaboration with:
Scientist-in-the-Classroom Partnerships
Austin Peay State University
Fisk University
Meharry Medical College
Tennessee State University
Vanderbilt University
Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools

The purposes of conducting a Family Science Night include stimulating excitement for and an interest in science among middle school children and their parents, and involving parents in the educational process. It also provides an opportunity for scientists to share their knowledge and passion for science, promote careers in science, and infuse science research into the community.
